License for call centres/tech centres

Since the early years of 21st century, telemarketing has been playing a key role in business portfolios. The Department of Telecommunication(DOT) formulated few terms and conditions to obtain a BPO license in India. In India, service providers on various regards of telemarketing/telebusiness like the telebanking, e-commerce, network operation services are termed as “Other Service Providers” (OSP). DOT issues license for the Call Center/Tech center with the title “OSP”.

OSP Registration in India

It is mandatory that a BPO must be incorporated as a Private Limited Company to make the entity to be eligible for the license.

  1. The First step in the process of registration is to get registered with NASSCOM
  2. It is mandatory to have tax certification so that you can pay the required tax amount levied by the government.
  3. Once the above two steps are done an application must be made to the DOT in the prescribed format attaching the below-supporting documents.

A) Certificate of Incorporation issued by the Registrar of companies
B) Shareholder’s fund with equity details
C) Demand draft of INR 1000/- drawn in the name of Pay and accounts officer, DOT, towards the processing fees.
D) The number of seats in the call center and Schematic diagram of the Call Center layout.
E) Address of all locations connected with leased lines and the bandwidth of leased lines.

After the authority makes necessary verification, a call center license valid up to 20 years from the date of such application would be issued.
